Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear Review

Move over PoliceQuest SWAT 'cause Rogue Spear is the new leader in gameplay! This Rainbow Six sequel is even better than its predecessor if that is possible and believe me it is in this case. You haven’t even begun to play a full force in your face game till you have played this game. This game has the same fast pace strategy driven force as Rainbow Six but in my opinion the game gives you a lot more leeway. While I thoroughly enjoyed Rainbow Six it always seemed as if your chances of avoiding termination or injury were limited. You no more than made a peep and it was all over. This version gives you a lot more to work with and to me, makes the game even more enjoyable. You can now stealthily move about without getting shot and one eye over a shield does not mean certain demise.

As in Rainbow Six your missions take you all around the world and your surroundings are unbelievable realistic. I have to say that for me this really adds a lot to the game not that I don’t enjoy games which take place on alien nations. Knowing these places really do exist just adds to a “gotta win” attitude. You are given missions to accomplish and all the weapons you will need to score a win. The SWAT team in this version is a lot more prepared to take on the missions and in my opinion the missions are tougher which makes gameplay not only more challenging but also gives a feeling of “yes!” when you take the enemy down. You have the choice of selecting your own mission and team if you want to or accepting the ones selected for you by the game. If you have played Rainbow Six or are new to this series my advice would be to select your own. Don’t get me wrong, the games selection is second to none but if you choose to create everything on your own you develop a certain edge will not guarantee success but really gives the game a more personal feel. If you only play one mission impossible genre game this year this is the one you have to play. Trust me, it will give you hours, days and months of challenge play.

Install: N/A

Gameplay: 9.5
The option of selecting your own mission as well as team gives this game a leg up on other games of the same genre. Pick and choose gives the game a different feel to the challenge and skill needed and really give s fast and furious feel throughout. Easy to use controls also a big plus as this gives you far more time to actual play and work out a plan.

Graphics: 9.5
Graphics are spectacular on everything to minute detail on weapons to the characters in the SWAT team and your enemies. From burnt out buildings to Russia itself, the graphics are incredible. Graphics like this give the overall feel of the game realism and true grit not to mention so good tension to spur you on.

Sound: 9.0
Realistic gunshots, clear dialogue and tension mounting music all add up to one of the best sounding games on the market. The background is bold and one thing I particular like is that the colors line up perfectly with the situation you are in at the moment. It makes the moment lighter when needed to be or darker when you know everything is on the line.

Difficulty: 9.0
Difficulty is no less challenging on the lower level than it is on the expert. This is especially important when you are playing a game of strategy and skill. Difficulty becomes a little more intense when your mission brings you into Russia. I am not sure if the is the environment but it definitely takes a lot more of deep thinking on the part of the player.

Concept: 10.0
Very seldom do I give a game a rating of 10 but in this case I could do no less. The fact that it is in a series lends a little to the rating but not the majority of it as many sequels have been created and fall short of their predecessor. This is one series where the sequel rivals its base in everything from missions to members’ selection to choose from for the SWAT team.

Multiplayer: 9.5
I have to tell you that although I thoroughly enjoyed playing this game one on one it is something else when you choose Multiplayer. This is one of those games where I highly recommend using the Multiplayer option as you game becomes even more intense playing against an opponent. Strategy is heightened and skills have to be right on target at every turn. This option brings a new dimension to the game.

Overall: 9.5
Hours and hours of fast and furious gameplay. Excellent and well thought out plots and challenging every step of the way make this one of the best games of the year.
